Marvin Ultimate Windows at the Culver Lake House
The Culver Lake House brings New England character together with expansive lake views. Achieving both took close coordination among Skyline Builders, architect Gary Nance, and Glass House Gallery. Windows and doors were central to the design: they needed to suit the home’s detailed architecture and keep the water in view.

SKYLINE BUILDERS: RELATIONSHIPS AND ATTENTION TO DETAIL
Chad Leap, an owner of Skyline Builders, says the company takes its greatest pride in service and relationships with homeowners. He and business partner Tim Merchant have known each other since childhood. They started their company by borrowing tools to complete their first roofing jobs, then moved into siding, window installations, additions, renovations, and new homes. Today, Skyline specializes in custom lake homes.
That history shapes how Chad approaches a project. His team looks beyond the broad plan to the fine details: how a beam meets a column, where one wall finish changes to another, and whether the completed home meets the homeowner’s expectations. On the Culver Lake House, the level of interior finish work made that care especially important.
The Challenge
Gary Nance’s drawings established the home’s direction. Chad could see that the beams, windows, and finish carpentry would all demand careful coordination. For a lake home, he says, the window package carries particular weight because the homeowner wants to enjoy the view.
The team worked through window-grid alignment and sightlines early. Inside, Skyline and Gary walked the rooms to detail the finish work and the transitions among beams, columns, and wall materials.
The lakeside bifold doors posed a more specific design question. The homeowner wanted tall glass that opened toward the lake. With the glass reaching nearly to the ceiling, the team also needed to decide how the ceiling treatment and adjoining wall materials would meet the doors while retaining character.
The Solution
“We always knew we were going to use Marvin,” Chad says. Skyline selected Marvin Ultimate windows and doors for this home, with Stone White exteriors and Satin Nickel hardware. Chad points to the customization and appearance he has valued in Marvin products across Skyline’s work.
Cori Brown, CEO of Glass House Gallery, worked with Gary and Skyline on the window and door package. Their coordination included reviewing how the window grids lined up and resolving the relationship between the lakeside bifold doors, the ceiling, and the surrounding wall finishes. Chad says Glass House Gallery looked closely at the details and brought questions forward while there was still time to work through them.
“Glass House Gallery understands our expectations, just as we understand the homeowner’s expectations,” Chad says. For Skyline, the benefit was working with people whose daily focus is windows and doors and who add essential expertise as part of the larger building team.
The Results
The finished home retains its New England character: white shake siding, copper gutters, and a synthetic slate roof. Inside, hickory trusses frame the great room, with a limestone fireplace and carefully detailed finishes throughout. The windows and doors support the home’s style while keeping the lake views present from inside.
Chad remembers the homeowner’s reaction as the work progressed. When the windows went in, he recalls, the homeowner walked around taking them in. Each return visit brought something new, from the doors to the interior finish work. “There were a lot of wow moments each time he came and saw the steps along the way,” Chad says. Chad reports that the homeowner was happy with the finished home and continues to recommend Skyline to others.
